Professional Development for Teachers K-8

Most CIBL workshops are 6 hours long and take place on a weekday, at our training center or at your school district.

To rent a kit, we require teachers to attend the CIBL session on that kit.

Why invest in professional development?

Videos and vendor training work well for teachers who only need a tool to help them do what they already know how to do. However, few K-5 teachers in the US know the science concepts at their grade level. Even fewer are experienced with guiding investigations as a mode of teaching. Most teachers need to go through kit activities in the role of student in order to adequately use a kit, improve teaching practice, and help students learn.

How many teachers should we train?

If you plan to start with a few kits per grade level and you want to find out about them, a few teachers can try the kits and find out which ones work best. Some districts have sent 4 teachers at a grade level, each trying a different kit. Some have tried out a few kits in several schools. If you want all the teachers at a grade level in multiple schools to work together, and you plan to obtain a large number of one title for them to use, then you need to train large numbers at once. CIBL offers both options.

Our partnership with CIBL has enhanced and greatly improved the science instruction within our district.
